Team Spotlight: Emma Hughes

By January 2, 2025March 31st, 2025No Comments

We’re excited to have Emma Hughes here with us at Dartmouth Ocean Technologies (DOT) as a Production Assembler.

With a background in biology and training from Nova Scotia Community College – NSCC’s Ocean Technology Program, Emma has found her stride at the intersection of science and technology—building tools that have the power to change how we understand our oceans.

Emma has hit the ground running, recently leading a successful deployment and eDNA sampler training for one of our clients in the United States. Her hands-on approach and dedication to understanding how our sensors and samplers are built, and function underscore her commitment to excellence. Her hands-on expertise and ability to teach complex concepts made the deployment a resounding success.

Looking ahead, she will take on a pivotal role in providing eDNA sampler training to DOT customers starting in 2025. We’re also excited to see her biology background come into play as our eDNA product lines grow, requiring advanced lab analysis and DNA sample processing. eDNA sampling has the potential to inform policies, monitor ecosystems, and even detect endangered species—all without disturbing the environment. It’s innovation with real-world impact, and Emma is helping lead the way.

As a woman thriving in a traditionally male-dominated field, she is breaking barriers and inspiring others. Her advice? “Trust in your knowledge and know you’re capable.” Her passion, skills, and drive are a testament to the power of diversity in innovation.

Please join us in celebrating Emma’s journey, her accomplishments, and the exciting future ahead at DOT!
