Fieldwork Update

Dr. Jennifer Tolman was recently in the Canadian Arctic, in Pangnirtung, with our eDNA sampler, collecting crucial whale samples as part of Dr. Sarah Fortune’s lab at Dalhousie University’s Department of Oceanography.

Whales are essential for biodiversity and ecosystem health. Our eDNA sampler, currently undergoing field testing, allows researchers to detect genetic material from water samples, identifying cryptic or hard-to-see species that traditional methods miss. By collaborating with experts like Dr. Sarah Fortune, Dr. Julie LaRoche, and Dr. Jennifer Tolman, we’re advancing this technology and collecting critical environmental data. Samples will be analyzed in Dr. LaRoche’s lab, enhancing our understanding of whale populations.
